Hello everyone! Just a quick note: I am currently redesigning this website so I have taken much of the content offline; it’s slowly on its way back up.
Firstly, I’m Liv and I’m from Liverpool in north-west England. I read Literae Humaniores (Classics) at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and I’m about to start an MSt in Roman History at Balliol College. I’m the girl who translates Disney into Latin.
Live Latin is intended as a resource for students – all students, but particularly students of Latin working towards GCSE and up, and university-level students of other disciplines in the Humanities.
I decided to design a Latin website way back in secondary school, because help with Latin is extremely lacking compared to other subjects. Where is the CGP equivalent for Latin or Greek? How can Latin grammar be revised? When I reached university I realised also that students are taught literature in isolation with little or no conception of its reception over the years and how that has shaped its presentation now. Many history students struggle to engage with literature on an emotional level, while many literature students are ignorant of basic ancient history. This website aims to do something about that.
If you would like to contact me for any reason, please feel free to do so at [liv at livelatin dot org]. I speak English, French, Italian and Greek (Ancient & Modern), and I can get by in Spanish. And, of course, Latin.
